DIY American Girl Nightstand

As you all know 

I love love love unique things and crafting! So a handmade nightstand is perfect for my room!

And I'm going to show you how I made mine. 

You're gonna need 3 boxes that are the same size 

hot glue, paint, and buttons 

3 same size buttons, and two larger buttons. 

This is the shape the nightstand is gonna be

Start with the bottom of one of the boxes 

The box is able to, somewhat, fold in on itself. You need to glue those tabs to the box so it's more stable 

Now you're gonna take the lids off of two boxes and put the bottom inside of them like this 

Now you can leave it like this, but with the top box it's just a little too tall for my liking! 

So I'm going to cut it down. This is optional.

Now you glue the bottom box into the tops. 

Now you're gonna have one whole box and the bottom of another left. 

Were using the whole box to make the top with a functional drawer. 

So take the bottom and line it up with the bottom of the whole box 

Cut it out so you can fit the bottom in it sideways 

Then line up the bottom of the whole box with the lid so you have a guide line for where to cut it out. 

Once you have them both cut it should look something like this!

Now for that left over bottom; line it up with the short side of the whole box and then cut it down so it'll fit inside 

I'm going to start referring to the extra bottom as the drawer!

the drawer is too tall to fit in the box so you will need to cut it down 

Take what's left of the bottom from when you cut it to the width of the whole box and pull of the tabs

 Then cut it in half

Now the part pictured is going to be back of your drawer. 

You'll need to cut it down to be the same height of the drawer

And then glue the tabs to the back of the drawer so it looks like this! 

Your drawer should now be able to fit into the top of your nightstand

Now you need to take the whole box and glue it together 

Now the drawer is smaller than I would like it to be, so I'm going take the piece I cut off of the top of the box 

And glue it to the front of the drawer.

Now you have all of the pieces for your nightstand!

The stand, drawer, and table top. 

Now it's time to use those buttons!

Take the three small buttons

And glue them on top of eachother!

And then glue on the two bigger buttons

Now you have your drawer knob!

Glue the knob onto the drawer

Now you need to glue the box to the top of the stand. 

And just slide your drawer into place! 

Now it's time to get out the paint!

Once you finish painting it and let it dry- you're done!
